The global covid pandemic has been one of the toughest tests for humanity in the last decade. The waves of infections in the pre-vaccine era were devastating and we all, in some way, experienced the drama of separation from one of our loved ones or the fear of losing someone close to us. For healthcare workers, this mix of emotions was added to the determination and awareness of having a central role in stemming the advance of the virus. I am a radiology technician and I work at the hospital in Paternò, a city in the province of Catania and located on the slopes of the Etna volcano. These photographs, taken during the months of the pandemic emergency, are a small indelible sign of what we have experienced and of our work. Among these there is also the photo taken of the colleague who first became infected, moments that have remained imprinted in our minds and which have given us even more strength in carrying out our service.
