I began this body of work by becoming a father, welcoming my daughter, Bo Bei, into our multicultural and international family when she was just three years old. This transformative experience lead me to explore fundamental questions:
What defines a nurturing and fulfilling childhood?
What sacrifices am I prepared to make for the well-being of my family?
Above all, what defines the essence of family?
Initially, my photographic endeavors were driven by a personal need to navigate and understand the complexities of family dynamics, while simultaneously anchoring myself in the role of a present and engaged father. However, as I delved deeper into this series, I realized that my journey held significance beyond my own narrative. Through the lens of our unconventional "wild pack of family dogs," I seek to convey a compelling message: that adoption, despite its challenges, is a journey of immense joy and profound beauty. This narrative challenges conventional notions of family, highlighting its capacity to transcend physical appearances, cultural backgrounds, and societal expectations.
